The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, July 12th. As always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.
Last year’s nominees: black-ish, Cobra Kai, Emily in Paris, The Flight Attendant, Hacks, The Kominsky Method, PEN15, Ted Lasso
The competition: All but one of last year’s nominees - “The Kominsky Method” is eligible this year, but there’s good reason to believe the lineup will look very different. Hacks and Ted Lasso are the only safe bets to return, while The Flight Attendant is possible and the rest, black-ish, Cobra Kai, Emily in Paris, and PEN15, are unlikely to do so. There are just as many nominees back in contention after a year or more off the air. Most likely to rejoin the list are Barry, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Atlanta. Curb Your Enthusiasm, Insecure, Russian Doll, and What We Do in the Shadows may also return for their latest seasons. The new shows with the best shots areOnly Murders in the Building, Abbott Elementary, and Reservation Dogs, though it’s possible there will be enthusiasm for Peacemaker, The Afterparty, Ghosts, Hawkeye, Julia, Minx, Our Flag Means Death, Schmigadoon!, and Somebody Somewhere. I’m very sad that The Great likely won’t get nominated since it absolutely deserves to be.
The predicted nominees: Abbott Elementary, Barry, Hacks, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Only Murders in the Building, Peacemaker, Ted Lasso, What We Do in the Shadows
The predicted winner: I think Hacks wins this time.
