Tehran: Season 2, Episode 8 “Blood Funeral” (B+)
This was quite the finale, with enough intensity and surprises to rival the previous episode and overall impress much more than last year’s season ender. Inviting Faraz in to figure out a way out of his own precarious situation was interesting since it seemed all but assured that he would be found out, and apparently he does harbor ill will towards Mohammadi even though he’s seemed to generally respect him. Making a move at the funeral was a bold but expected plan, though Yulia vetoing it and Marjan going ahead anyway was a bit less predictable. Faraz was able to dispense with potential obstacles like Vahid showing up and going to warn Mohammadi about Tamar potentially being responsible for what happened, but he had his own endgame which he was able to achieve in spectacular form. Marjan didn’t see Nahid using the poison on her coming at all, and that didn’t manage to impact the mission, just to help Nahid and Faraz move on and neutralize one of the major threats facing them. Faraz also managed to take out the person who might next look at him as a suspect in Ali’s death, and Tamar to got to deliver a tribute to her murdered aunt when she greeted Mohammadi on the phone just before it blew up. Milad’s death in the car seemed likely given the ominous music playing, and now, if this show does get renewed, it will be interesting to see where Tamar goes without Marjan, Milad, or the Mossad. I think this has been a great season and would eagerly watch more.
