Heroes: Season 1, Episode 23 "How To Stop An Exploding Man" (C-)
What a disappointment! I was a bit too excited, especially given the fact that I do not actually love "Heroes" and, whenever a new episode is coming up, I think back to the amazing preview that aired during the March-April hiatus and hype up the show in my mind. But anyway, this was possibly one of the worst episodes of the entire season. Sylar's death was so quick and uneventful, half the characters present had no idea what the hell was going on, and Nathan sacrificed himself even though Peter should be able to fly all by himself. Peter's time travel venture made little sense. Nikki's alter ego helping her out against Candice was just dumb. And Hiro ending up back in time a few centuries just seems irrelevant. I do see major spinoff potential though from the scene where the two kids (Molly & Micah) bond over their ridiculously awesome powers. I think my initial impression, which proved itself during the first ten or so episodes then reserved itself, was correct. "Heroes" is pure mindless entertainment and superhero fun. With the exception of the three standout episodes, "Company Man", ".07%", and "Five Years Gone", the show has never really been too interested in plot and really developing anything and having it make sense. I am not sure what is planned for season two and what will now make it interesting now that Sylar went down so easily. I will be honest, it was a chilling moment when Molly talked about the man who saw her whenever she though about him, so perhaps that can make a good villain for next season who will hopefully put up more of a fight before he goes down. The writers were smart to rid "Heroes" of the most annoying and stupid characters this season though - Isaac, Simone, and Jessica. I personally want to know more about Hana, played by Stana Katic, and seen in only one episode besides in the future in "Five Years Gone", working with Bennett to help refugees with powers get away. And it would be cool to see Candice work with the heroes. It was great to have them all brought together, but I would really like if they would band together and start actually talking to each other.
