What I’m Watching: Justified

Justified: Season 3, Episode 3 “Harlan Roulette” (B+)

This show is not wasting any time this season, piling on the guest stars, the villains, and the number of people that have it out for Raylan. With no sign of Winona or Art, it was Raylan against a whole legion of bad guys, with the marshal becoming rather annoyed that so many people keep trying to kill him. Pruitt Taylor Vince was a great guest star, proving just as deadly and terrifying in his intimidation methods as Fletcher and Limehouse, forcing a man to play Russian roulette over and over and then shooting him just for the fun of it. Sending Wade after Raylan was an ill-fated plan, and Raylan does few things better than talking to stupid criminals. With so many people getting killed, Raylan is back looking at Wynn Duffy, and snaps himself a picture of a smiling Quarles, who is even more methodical than the other bad guys on this show, calmly detailing his brilliant plan of organized crime and then picking up a casual call from his son. Boyd is trying to be smart about his business as well, having Ava set up a meeting with Limehouse, who doesn’t seem to be overly fond of him, and disciplining Devil for not burning the weed. Arlo seems to be getting off easy, given that he’s equally culpable, just more fragile in his old age. Taking the bar back with Johnny’s help means that Boyd is setting himself up to be a major kingpin, and talkative Dickie and that curious guard may pose just a bit of a problem for him.
