Person of Interest: Season 1, Episode 14 “Wolf and Cub” (B+)
This was a bit of a different episode, thanks both to the fact that Finch was operating at less than optimal capacity and Reese got the opportunity to hang out with a kid who was rather impressed by his skills. The delayed number meant that it was Darren rather than his brother that Reese had to protect, and after a bit of a slow start to the relationship, Darren wanted to pay Reese, who agreed but refused to take any more than one penny to do the job. Fortunately, Darren was a smart kid, and Reese seemed to enjoy being cool and explaining the steps of how to deal with the bad guys. Fusco losing track of the kid because he’s spying on Finch for Reese and then worrying about Carter getting too close to Reese makes this whole web of trust so immensely complicated, and it’s bound to come crashing down sooner or later. As Finch said, “Only the paranoid survive,” and it would appear that Will may be backing off on his search for meaning in terms of what Ingram was up to before he died, and Alicia didn’t provide any additional answers that could have exposed Finch. Fusco, on the other hand, did uncover a decent amount, and let’s just hope that Finch doesn’t do something to force Reese to use that information for some malicious purpose. Finch is sure to have more than enough on his plate now with his new hacker friend, and he doesn’t deserve to be betrayed by those he trusts.
