Emmy Nominees: Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

My predictions: 4/6, picking Wever and Milioti over Bowen and Chlumsky

I said it in my predictions – I wasn’t sure about Merritt Wever, last year’s winner, being nominated again. I ultimately included her in my guesses, but it turns out that she’s out while her costar Edie Falco is still in. I should have realized that Cristin Milioti was a far-out choice when she wasn’t even on the GoldDerby options (I picked sixth choice Bowen instead, who did get nominated). “How I Met Your Mother” did manage to get cinematography and editing nominations for its final season, but nothing else. Sofia Vergara is out, leaving in Julie Bowen (Modern Family), who is definitely the strongest adult female on the show (though the kids are probably better these days). Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory), as is, wonderfully enough, Anna Chlumsky (Veep) for another funny season of her show. Joining them are two veterans in new roles, Allison Janney (Mom) and Kate Mulgrew (Orange is the New Black), and a fresh face, Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live), who seems to be the new hot star of her variety series. It’s nice to see Janney recognized as the only aspect of her show, since one good performance doesn’t necessarily equal a great series, and Mulgrew finally getting some major awards recognition.

Who should win? I don’t watch three of these shows regularly, but I’ll pick Mulgrew or Chlumsky at this point.
Who will win? I’d guess Janney unless McKinnon has a groundswell of support.
