Emmy Nominees: Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series

My predictions: 5/6, picking Emmy Rossum over McCarthy

Five of these nominees were pretty much sure things, and the sixth spot was up for grabs. It could have gone to the excellent Emmy Rossum, whose costar William H. Macy finally earned recognition, or to the still-great Zooey Deschanel, or, better yet, nominations announcer Mindy Kaling! Instead, we get Melissa McCarthy (Mike and Molly), a surprise winner three years ago who wasn’t even nominated last year. She also earned her third consecutive nomination for hosting “Saturday Night Live,” so maybe this is misdirected overkill. Joining her are returning nominees Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Lena Dunham (Girls), whose show fell out of the Best Comedy Series category, Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), which serves as the only bid for her amazing show, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep), whose show skyrocketed to nine nominations this year. Also in the running is Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black), whose show scored a massive twelve nominations.

Who should win? I don’t watch McCarthy’s show or Falco’s. Poehler is easily the best in this group.
Who will win? I think it could be Schilling.
