Emmy Nominees: Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series

My predictions: 5/6, picking Michael Sheen over Daniels

Not much of a surprise here, since I had predicted that last year’s winner, Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom) wouldn’t return, and he did over an actor from a new series who stood a decent shot of placing. An Emmy favorite, James Spader, didn’t make the cut, which is a relief, while two new players did, Woody Harrelson (True Detective) and Matthew McConaughey (True Detective). Last year’s nominee Hugh Bonneville is out, and joining them instead are three returning nominees, Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), and Kevin Spacey (House of Cards). A fine list, though it would have been nice to see Demian Bichir.

Who should win? I guess I’ll have to watch more than just the first episode of “True Detective” now. At this point, I’d pick Cranston or Hamm.
Who will win? A dead heat between three-time winner Cranston and recent Oscar winner McConaughey. Presuming that the top trophy goes to the former’s series, I think the latter will take this one.
