Emmy Predictions: Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 10th. Please refer to my Emmy musings for this category for a detailed analysis of the contenders, and, as always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.
Last year’s nominees: Ty Burrell, Adam Driver, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Bill Hader, Ed O’Neill, Tony Hale
The competition: Count Hader out this year since he’s no longer a cast member on his show. Last year, past winner Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family) was snubbed, but he could easily be back this year to rejoin costars Ty Burrell (Modern Family), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), and Ed O’Neill (Modern Family). Last year’s winner Tony Hale (Veep) will be back, and how great would it be if he was joined by costar Kevin Dunn (Veep)? I’m not so sure about last year’s nominee Adam Driver (Girls), who could be bumped in favor of past nominees Max Greenfield (New Girl) and Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother). The rest of the new contenders this year are an eclectic bunch: Emmy veteran Andre Braugher (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), kid showstealer Albert Tsai (Trophy Wife), the late, great Christopher Evan Welch (Silicon Valley), the endearing Seth Meyers (Saturday Night Live), and alternative series stars Keegan Michael-Key (Key and Peele) and Jordan Peele (Key and Peele). Could this year finally be a major shake-up in this race?
The predicted nominees: Ty Burrell, Andre Braugher, Tony Hale, Keegan Michael-Key, Jordan Peele, Christopher Evan Welch
The predicted winner: Welch
