Emmy Predictions: Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 10th. Please refer to my Emmy musings for this category for a detailed analysis of the contenders, and, as always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.

Last year’s nominees: Mayim Bialik, Julie Bowen, Anna Chlumsky, Jane Krakowski, Jane Lynch, Sofia Vergara, Merritt Wever

The competition: Count out Krakowski since her show ended, and you’re left with a full list. I have to hope that add-on nominee Jane Lynch (Glee) gets the boot in favor of more deserved contenders. Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory), Anna Chlumsky (Veep), and Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie) could all go either way. Beyond that, it might be time for Julie Bowen (Modern Family) or Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) to be dropped from the list, especially considering the number of contenders vying for spots. Veteran actresses Allison Janney (Mom) and Margo Martindale (The Millers) may or may not score nods, while fresh faces Cristin Milioti (How I Met Your Mother) and Chelsea Peretti (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) stand a decent chance of breaking in. Two other shows have a few contenders, including Vanessa Bayer (Saturday Night Live) and Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live), and the only submitted actresses from the breakout Netflix hit, Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black), Kate Mulgrew (Orange is the New Black), and Laura Prepon (Orange is the New Black)

The predicted nominees: Mayim Bialik, Allison Janney, Kate McKinnon, Cristin Milioti, Kate Mulgrew, Merritt Wever

The predicted winner: Mulgrew
