Supergirl: Season 2, Episode 1 “The Adventures of Supergirl” (B)
It’s not often that shows are cancelled by their networks and then end up getting picked up by another network that’s actually much more suited to broadcast it. This show was fun in its first season but never felt like a solid fit for CBS, and it’s much more at home on the CW. This season premiere was exciting but not the most formidable hour the show has ever presented. I’m intrigued to see where the show is going now, triumphantly introducing a very likeable and dashing Superman to work alongside Kara. Up to this point, a lot of Superman plotlines have been refashioned to fit a universe where Supergirl is the one in the spotlight, and bringing her cousin in makes that less possible. She just seems to be happy to working with him, while Cat can’t contain her strange attraction to Clark and Hank doesn’t see eye-to-eye with him because of their differing perspectives on the viability of keeping Kryptonite on hand. It is great to see that Kara has found a far more fitting calling than being Cat’s punching bag assistant, and I’m eager to see how she does as a journalist. There were a handful of new characters introduced in this episode, and I’m curious to see whose addition is permanent. It could be cool to get to know Lena Luthor, and her being an ally could be helpful with all of these new villains around. It’s also worthwhile to note James and Winn’s changing roles in Kara’s personal and professional lives. Simply put, I’m glad that this show is back and didn’t get axed for good by CBS.
