The Riches: Season 1, Episode 13 "Waiting for Dogot" (B)
This was certainly the biggest and most frustrating cliffhanger I have ever seen from an FX season finale. That poor guy Pete has been through so much, and it really sucks that he has to presumably (and hopefully, put him out of his misery!) meet his end from the vicious Dale. It struck me as a bit odd that the Malloys so quickly picked up everything and abandoned ship. It seems like the whole Pete situation could have been dealt with much better, but I guess it is clear that the Malloys are only thieves, not murderers. It was fun to see them poisoning drinks and passing notes under the table. And everyone really loves Wayne, especially Hugh, who calls him his only friend. Margo Martindale is definitely the MVP for this episode, and her character Nina has turned out to be more than just background character filler. I am not sure how excited I am for the second season, because I really hope they stay, but I have faith in the show.
Season grade: B+
By the way, I saw the second long ad for the new Glenn Close legal show "Damages" tonight. It is very weird because this promo makes it out to look like the most serious and violent show (using music from the "Good German" trailer, if I am not mistaken), whereas the previous one made it out to seem bouncy and comedic (using music from "Lemony Snicket", I think). All I can say is that my favorite part is definitely Ted Danson talking on his cell phone while wearing a suit of armor. "Damages" premiers Tuesday, July 24 at 10pm.
