The Shield: Season 6, Episode 10 "Spanish Practices" (A-)
This 90-minute season ender is a great resolution for a number of the plotlines on the show as well as a huge revamp for the seventh (and presumably final) season of the show. Billings proves himself to be even more of a bumbling, selfish idiot, and Hiatt finds that the Barn may not be a perfect fit for him after all. Ronnie gets Vic's backing as the potential future Strike Team leader, and Shane helps his former friends only to realize how deep in he realize has gotten himself. Dutch and Danny finally find a degree of happiness in each other's comfort. But the best part of this episode is the new alliance brewing between Vic and Acaveda, showing once again that as much as they hate each other, they ultimately can work together to bring down the civil servant a hundred times more corrupt than Vic. As much as I wish they had resolved the state of Vic's job, I am thrilled with the new direction next season will take. I also hope that the show does not end next year, even though it is currently supposed to, but this show has never once dipped in quality and remained ahead. Great performances this season from Michael Chiklis, CCH Pounder, Walton Goggins, and David Rees Snell as well as recurring guest stars David Marciano (Billings), Paula Garces (Tina), Alex O'Loughlin (Hiatt), and Forest Whitaker. It would appear that Hiatt is out as O'Loughlin has taken on a lead role in a new Friday night CBS series "Moonlight". I hope to see bigger roles for Jay Karnes (Dutch), Benito Martinez (Acaveda), Michael Jace (Julien), and Catherine Dent (Danny) next season.
Season grade: A
