What I’m Watching: Homeland

Homeland: Season 1, Episode 10 “Representative Brody” (B+)

After seeing into the darkest of his times behind enemy lines last week, Brody is back to being a good guy as he contemplates his run for Congress, which garners the most opposition from his wife Jessica, who fears that both of their affairs will be exposed and might rip apart their family. Brody is becoming increasingly likeable, and going to Mike to apologize, thank him for taking care of his family in his absence, and ask him to help convince Jessica was a bold and generous step. Calling up Carrie felt like phoning an old friend to get together, and she clearly expected some action from him rather than the rather straightforward request to ensure that their weekend together remain a secret. Her subsequent loneliness was well paired with a shot of Saul eating take-out alone at the office. Carrie’s interrogation of Al Zahrani was harsh, especially after her first tactic didn’t work and she had to resort to threatening to deport his daughter. Things in the park didn’t feel right at all, and the detonation of that bomb is sure to have an impact much greater than just five dead civilians. Carrie’s proximity to the explosion means that her vigilance is going to be much increased, and she’s going to be determined to take down Walker and find the enemy within the CIA, which should make the final two episodes of the season furiously intense and entirely unmissable. It was nice to see Virgil again in small spurts, and I’m sure he’ll be helping Carrie out again soon.
