SAG Predictions: Best Female Actor in a Drama Series

This year, the Screen Actors Guild announces its picks one day before Golden Globe nominations are revealed, which means less for TV than it does for movies. The most distinctive aspect of the SAG TV prizes is that lead and supporting thespians are grouped into one category. Here are my best guesses for this category, which will be announced on Wednesday, December 14th.

Last year’s nominees:
Glenn Close (Damages)
Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU)
Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife)
Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men)
Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer)

Count out Elisabeth Moss this year since “Mad Men” didn’t air in 2011. Her spot is likely going to be taken by Claire Danes (Homeland). Other new lead contenders include Emmy nominees Kathy Bates (Harry's Law) and Mireille Enos (The Killing). It's very possible that Close, Hargitay, or Sedgwick could be left off the list this year, and the biggest threats to steal their spots are the past two Emmy winners in the supporting category: Margo Martindale (Justified) and Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife).

Current predictions:
Claire Danes
Margo Martindale
Julianna Margulies
Archie Panjabi
Kyra Sedgwick
