What I’m Watching: Psych

Psych: Season 6, Episode 7 “In For a Penny…” (B)

I’ve always cited Juliet as one of my favorite characters on this show, and seeing her show up in the flashback waiting for her father to arrive at her birthday party made me very happy. Unfortunately, the episode just didn’t give her all that much to do, and I do miss when she use to be a regularly featured player with actual lines and plotlines. Obviously this installment was all about William Shatner, who wasn’t terribly funny but also wasn’t that bad as her father Frank, who, as luck would have it, is a professional con man. It’s interesting to see Juliet try one of his tricks in an interview, something which she’s never done before, but I guess that can be explained away by the fact that his presence reactivated that line of thinking for her. It was evident from the start that Frank was responsible for stealing the penny, but it saved by the fact that Shawn and only Shawn knew that he still had the penny. Frank’s interference in the case was mostly unhelpful and purposefully aimed at misdirecting him, though his idea to have Lassie drive the getaway van straight to the police station, thanks to Shawn’s noting on a nonexistent radio station, was brilliant. I feel like everyone is really picking on Gus this season, constantly berating him for always being Shawn’s accomplice and not sticking up for himself enough. He doesn’t exactly do much to defend himself, but it does seem like they’re kicking him when he’s down more often than not.
