Golden Globe Musings: Best Actor in a TV Series – Comedy/Musical

Golden Globe nominations for this year will be soon, so here’s a survey of the contenders and the most likely predictions at this time. Weigh in with your thoughts, and let me know if I’ve left off anyone important. A reminder that last year’s nominees mean zilch at the Globes and that the race is almost entirely unpredictable.

Last year’s nominees:
Alec Baldwin (30 Rock)
Steve Carell (The Office)
Thomas Jane (Hung)
Matthew Morrison (Glee)
Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory)

New contenders:
Will Arnett (Up All Night)
Elijah Wood (Wilfred)

Potential first-time nominees:
Louis C.K. (Louie)
Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory)
Matt LeBlanc (Episodes)
Joel McHale (Community)
Ed O’Neill (Modern Family)

Returning nominees:
Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm)

Though he deserves to be nominated again, something tells me that Thomas Jane will go the route of David Duchovny and Michael Chiklis and find himself left off the list while his show and his performance is just as good as it ever was. The most likely threats to replace him are the newly Emmy-nominated Johnny Galecki and past Golden Globe nominee Matt LeBlanc, who even got honored for “Joey” back in 2004. If voters like FX humor, they might also favor Emmy nominee Louis C.K. Ed O’Neill could pop up here or in the supporting category, and something tells me that if “Community” has yet to be nominated, it may never get recognized. Jim Parsons and Alec Baldwin are safe, and I think Steve Carell’s last hurrah will be honored as well. Matthew Morrison is likely to be snubbed if voters aren’t still obsessed with his show.

Current predictions:
Alec Baldwin
Steve Carell
Johnny Galecki
Matt LeBlanc
Jim Parsons
