SAG Predictions: Best Male Actor in a Comedy Series

This year, the Screen Actors Guild announces its picks one day before Golden Globe nominations are revealed, which means less for TV than it does for movies. The most distinctive aspect of the SAG TV prizes is that lead and supporting thespians are grouped into one category. Here are my best guesses for this category, which will be announced on Wednesday, December 14th.

Last year’s nominees:
Alec Baldwin (30 Rock)
Ty Burrell (Modern Family)
Steve Carell (The Office)
Chris Colfer (Glee)
Ed O'Neill (Modern Family)

This category is most at risk of being taken over completely by "Modern Family" actors as both Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson could feasibly join the ranks. This past year's Emmy nominees Louis C.K. (Louie) and Matt LeBlanc (Episodes) aren't likely to win over this particular crowd, and two-time Emmy winner Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) and Johnny Galecki have yet to earn any recognition from this guild. This may be a particularly unexciting category, since all five nominees from last year are eligible and probable to repeat, though Carell could be left off since he hasn't been on his show for half the year.

Current predictions:
Alec Baldwin
Ty Burrell
Steve Carell
Chris Colfer
Ed O'Neill
