SAG Predictions: Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series

This year, the Screen Actors Guild announces its picks one day before Golden Globe nominations are revealed, which means less for TV than it does for movies. The most distinctive aspect of the SAG TV prizes is that lead and supporting thespians are grouped into one category. Here are my best guesses for this category, which will be announced on Wednesday, December 14th.

Last year’s nominees:
Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie)
Tina Fey (30 Rock)
Jane Lynch (Glee)
Sofia Vergara (Modern Family)
Betty White (Hot in Cleveland)

Since last year's list drew from both lead and suppotring, there are a number of potential new nominees this year, including Laura Linney (The Big C), Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly), Martha Plimpton (Raising Hope), Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), and Julie Bowen (Modern Family). That doesn't even account for freshman series contenders like Zooey Deschanel (New Girl) and Laura Dern (Enlightened). Five slots isn't enough for such a wide group of contenders, so it's going to be a tight race.

Current predictions:
Julie Bowen
Edie Falco
Tina Fey
Jane Lynch
Sofia Vergara
