SAG Predictions: Best Ensemble in a Drama Series

This year, the Screen Actors Guild announces its picks one day before Golden Globe nominations are revealed, which means less for TV than it does for movies. The most distinctive aspect of the SAG TV prizes is that lead and supporting thespians are grouped into one category. Here are my best guesses for this category, which will be announced on Wednesday, December 14th.

Last year’s nominees:
Boardwalk Empire
The Closer
Dexter
The Good Wife
Mad Men

One spot is opening up thanks to the hiatus “Mad Men” took in 2011. There are many good candidates to fill it, with the dense and full cast of Game of Thrones looking especially good. If genre isn’t a detractor, American Horror Story could make a showing here, but I’d watch out instead for Homeland, Justified, and Shameless. I’ll make a personal plug for Boss, but I think that will be all about Kelsey Grammer and not the rest of the brilliant cast. Breaking Bad and Friday Night Lights, both snubbed up until now, could also make a showing. With so much competition, this could well be the year that both The Closer and Dexter get left off this list.

Current predictions:
Boardwalk Empire
The Good Wife
Homeland
Justified
Shameless
