What I’m Watching: Supergirl

Supergirl: Season 1, Episode 6 “Red Faced” (B)

This episode was a bit exaggerated with its depiction of anger and how it manifests itself, but it was all still in good fun, and fortunately Supergirl did manage to stop an uncontrollable robot who went rogue after his programmer unleashed him on his superiors. There were a few notable guest stars this hour, starting with returning recurring players Peter Facinelli as the Alex-courting Maxwell Lord and Jenna Dewan Tatum as an unwelcome addition to the game nights that Kara used to consider one of the best parts of her week. I was curious who would be playing the unflappable General Sam Lane, and there’s certainly no one less flappable that I can think of than Glenn Morshower, who famously played the personality-free Agent Aaron Pierce on “24.” It was a bit absurd that he jumped immediately to solely blaming Supergirl for putting humanity in danger when it was his technology that malfunctioned. The other great guest was Iddo Goldberg, so endearing on “Secret Diary of a Call Girl” and so sidelined and mistreated here as Dr. Morrow that he felt the need to control the Red Tornado and try to have him take out such formidable enemies as a holographic General Lane. Kara lashing out at Cat and then taking it back right away was amusing if a bit over-the-top, as most things with Cat tend to be. Hank standing up to General Lane when he attacked Supergirl was good to see, but that nobility doesn’t seem to be earning him any points with a very suspicious pair of sisters in his employ.
