Good Girls: Season 1, Episode 5 “Taking Care of Business” (B+)
This episode was definitely very watchable, taking a positive step after its past two less solid episodes. What’s most marvelous, I’d say, is watching Beth spring into action when she needs to get something done. When she grabbed a clipboard and eviscerated a poor employee of fifteen years at the store to get Brian’s address, it was incredible to see the confidence and ease with which she executed that complete fabrication. At the end of the episode, when she was caught by Agent Turner, who didn’t believe for a second that she would ever be caught in the same circles as Rio, she put on a less dramatic but equally believable performance filled with a whole lot of truth about how she felt about her marriage and why she might have had an affair if the desire had occurred. In making huge purchases and equally huge returns, Ruby is definitely doing a good job staying under the radar by talking so much to the employee that he wouldn’t ever suspect that she was doing anything malicious. Annie, on the other hand, was far too memorable to Brian, and it was incredibly irresponsible of her to call him for a one-night stand without even bothering to put away the receipts she had lying out on her table. She blamed some of what happened on Beth, but she’s a loose cannon who has already forced them to drown a car with her carelessness, and she’s not nearly as good at talking her way out of a mess as her sister.
