B Positive: Season 2, Episode 7 “A Camper, a Compass and a Cannoli” (B-)
I wasn’t sure what to think when we saw the camera from the perspective of Cannoli the dog, and wasn’t too impressed when we heard the dialogue the way he would have too. I think that’s because I’m not a dog person, so I imagine others find the huge ball of fur to be considerably more charming than I do. It’s hard enough to believe that Gina is able to manage owning a retirement home and keeping it running when she can’t even properly close a door and keep track of her dog. Spencer is being painted as a more sympathetic character now, though he didn’t do a great job of reining in his inappropriate comments when he was just trying to be respectful for once to Bette before they went out on their date. The addition of all these new characters this season has meant that Norma, who got all these great one-liners in the first season, doesn’t have nearly as much quality material at the moment. Speaking of changes from season one, Drew is definitely seeming quite aimless, ready to take off in a trailer that definitely is the opposite of the person he’s been since we first met him. I’m not sure if the plan is for the focus to continue being on the retirement home or if we might eventually shift back to Drew, but I wouldn’t mind a return to some of the original antics and relationships that were the basis for the first season.
