What I’m Watching: Barry

Barry: Season 3, Episode 5 “crazytimesh*tshow” (B+)

Albert showing up to speak with Mae and Chief Krauss was a reminder of the fact that law enforcement is very well aware of who Barry is and has cleared him of any wrongdoing despite his very obvious guilt. It’s also not as if Barry does anything to try to hide it, since he was at Sally’s when she came home and just casually offered to scare the woman who had essentially ruined her career, something he couldn’t comprehend was just further evidence of why she broke up with him. The notion that an algorithm could decide that a show wasn’t “hitting the right taste clusters” when it has only been out for twelve hours and was somehow less ideal than another project with a 27% rating on Rotten Tomatoes is absurd, but not too far unfortunately from the realm of possibility given the ridiculous metrics that sometimes get used these days. Cousineau was doing well with his apology tour until he came face-to-face with Laura San Giacomo Annie, and I look forward to seeing more of her. Things were going so well with Noho Hank and Cristobal, who even got to enjoy a visit from their friend Barry who was treating them like his therapists and was welcome to call ahead in the future, until Elena arrived with her henchmen. Hank may not have been found in the closet but Elena did see that photo of him and Cristobla, something that represents happiness for them but is surely the opposite for it. Julie and Kyle’s revenge plan is not going well, and I wonder what Barry’s going to do now that he heard that gun go off by accident in the car.
