What I’m Watching: Big Sky (Season Finale)

Big Sky: Season 2, Episode 18 “Catch a Few Fish” (B-)

This episode wasn’t nearly as bad as those before it, but it also didn’t provide a terribly emphatic finish to a season that’s been full of tension and villains. Jensen Ackles is the latest impressive addition to this cast, playing the new sheriff, Beau, who demonstrated his chauvinism immediately by assessing that a “girl” like Cassie couldn’t know anything about cars, but he did much better when he followed Jenny’s lead on her hunches. No one really lost here except for Veer, who lost his life as a result of his very deliberate and unsuccessful attempt to have someone else kill his son for him. Ren cooperated for the first time with law enforcement to send Jenny right to where she had left Travis with her father, and then Jenny went ahead and let him go so that he could track down the apparently still alive reason for his entire vengeance quest. Even Alicia made sure that she wasn’t carved out of whatever came after this, and tried to give Tonya some advice to keep herself alive and ahead. It felt a bit too easy for Scarlet to just dump Phoebe on Cassie’s doorstep and then keep running, especially since the information she handed over about the syndicate will likely keep the target on her back while she could have asked for protection in exchange for turning over that valuable intelligence. I don’t know what comes next in season three and, based on how I’ve found the first two seasons to be, I probably shouldn’t keep watching when it returns. We’ll see if that happens.

Season grade: C
Season MVP: Constance Zimmer as Alicia
