What I’m Watching: Resident Alien (Season Finale)

Resident Alien: Season 2, Episode 16 “I Believe in Aliens” (B+)

This episode’s title was very fitting since Liv had that emphatic line but the hour also ended on a new note, with Ben abducted by the aliens and seeing a baby up there, which really changes everything. Interspersing the interviews Peter had done with all the alien abductees and other believers was a great way of structuring it, and it led well to that surprising ending since it’s on such a different plane than the rest of what was happening. It’s nice to see that, after having her on the sidelines for the first two seasons, General McCallister is now going to be a major part of the story, identified specifically by Goliath to Harry as someone he made the mistake of killing in his timeline and the only one who could help save the planet. I also liked that, when the baby alien attached itself to Asta’s head to play her the message, it included Goliath saying explicitly that he was Harry from the future, a helpful fact that had been omitted from what he originally saw. Sahar bonding with the baby, now named Bridget, was a sweet moment, and I enjoyed Max telling Harry that he couldn’t be leaving since he obviously cared about him due to the stick figure drawing he gave him as a gift. The best news is that D’Arcy knows now about Harry’s true identity, even if she initially thought he was a dinosaur when he changed his form so that she wouldn’t be too angry at Asta. This has been a fun season and I truly look forward to this show’s return for season three and hopefully beyond.
