Golden Globe Musings: Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a TV Series

Golden Globe nominations for this year will be announced soon, so here’s a survey of the contenders and the most likely predictions at this time. Weigh in with your thoughts, and let me know if I’ve left off anyone important. A reminder that last year’s nominees mean zilch at the Globes and that the race is almost entirely unpredictable.

Last year’s nominees:
Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black)
Kathy Bates (American Horror Story)
Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey)
Allison Janney (Mom)
Michelle Monaghan (True Detective)

Two of these nominees might well be back – Aduba and Janney. Don’t bet on Froggatt reappearing, though it’s possible, and Bates is now in the lead field. The two returning Emmy winners might be joined by the other Emmy winner from this past year, Regina King (American Crime). Other potential miniseries/TV movie contenders include MoNique (Bessie), Jean Smart (Fargo), and Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story). Regular series contenders include Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Gaby Hoffman (Transparent), Jane Krakowski (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), and someone I think will definitely show up: Maura Tierney (The Affair).

Current predictions:
Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black)
Allison Janney (Mom)
Regina King (American Crime)
Jean Smart (Fargo)
Maura Tierney (The Affair)
