What I’m Watching: B Positive

B Positive: Season 1, Episode 17 “Transplanticipation” (B+)

It’s nice to see that things are going well with Drew and Adriana, though I am worried that Drew is overinvesting in a relationship that Adriana is going to want to end since she just doesn’t have the same optimism that he has about her future. It’s becoming a pattern that Drew has good news he wants to share and gets so focused on it that he’s constantly interrupting everyone else and paying no attention whatsoever to what it is that they’re trying to tell him. Fortunately, he does seem to really see Adriana and to try, when he’s able to stop himself for a moment, to understand what it is that she actually needs. It’s hard to imagine that the transplant could happen so soon since that might mean the end of this show, but it could probably live on after that since the characters are fun and at least some of them will still stay in dialysis. The introduction of Melissa Tang from “The Kominsky Method” as Megyn, a new dialysis patient with almost as much wit and anger as the mysteriously absent Samantha, suggests that this show could do fine with a rotating cast of characters, even if some have to cycle out at a point because they’re no longer relevant to the storyline or even die. I’m intrigued by this potential trip to Switzerland and eager to see what it does for Drew and Adriana’s relationship, and it was very nice to see Gina step up without any hesitation to help her friend Drew.
