What I’m Watching: Apartment 23

Apartment 23: Season 1, Episode 4 “The Wedding” (B+)

This is a strong instance of how to work with having a celebrity playing himself in your cast and use it to your advantage. James’ impending appearance on “Dancing with the Stars,” coincidentally also an ABC series, was cleverly incorporated into the whole of the episode, as he created a dance routine with both of the ladies now in his life. Starting the episode with a peek at the horror set to occur due to Chloe’s awfulness is proving to be an effective device, and in this case, it was even more of a fake-out than usual, as it ended up being a dramatized scene engineered by Chloe to make the philandering Steven jealous after he made out with June and then told her he broke up with her because she was boring. I enjoyed Chloe training June to be a badass by invoking George Clooney and Jamie Foxx, and bringing Kevin Sorbo to the wedding was quite a feat. Tricking him into thinking that it was a benefit for MS was funny, but not as much as the fact that he decided to deliver the same speech, beginning it by telling the happy couple that they wouldn’t always be healthy. James being the bride’s freebie was great, and I like that he actually went for it since he doesn’t appear to have any scruples. Incorporating Eli into the plot by having him be in the band at the wedding was fun, as was his censoring of June when she started airing her feelings in song. The James Guy Ritchie clips were pretty funny too.
