What I’m Watching: The Killing

The Killing: Season 2, Episode 7 “Keylala” (B+)

It’s a sure sign that you’re onto something when people start intimidating you just for effect. Things were definitely eerie out by the casino as both Sarah and Holder found themselves threatened directly, even after identifying themselves as police officers. Holder’s pursuit was especially unsettling, as Mary, played by Q’Orianka Kilcher, famous for playing Pocahontas in “The New World,” revealed herself as the one that sent Rosie the backpack and gave Holder a set of matches with instructions to meet her, only to prove inconsequential as he was apprehended on the ground floor the moment he exited the elevator. Sarah getting the call just so that she could hear Holder getting beaten up was not a good sign, and she’s not headed in a good direction now that she’s officially kidnapped Jack while they were being interrogated by Child Protective Services. Jack isn’t soon going to forgive her, and now her only ally is going to be relatively out of commission. Gwen proved herself to be ruthless and heartless by going to Stan to offer him a deal she knew wouldn’t possibly come to fruition, and Darren was far more honest and compassionate in his apology visit in which he expressed regret for the tactic taken by his staff. It didn’t ultimately work out too well for him, as an unhinged Stan, furious at Terry for her tangential role in Rosie’s death, didn’t so much support Stan as harm his campaign by putting a bounty on the head of Rosie’s killer during his press conference.
