What I’m Watching: Episodes

Episodes: Season 2, Episode 6 (B+)

There was always going to come a point where Matt was going to be asked to bring another former Friend onto the show with him. I have to applaud this show for its clever solution to that particular problem, having Matt act out one-sided phone conversations with each of the cast members, except Jennifer, of course, and then bring on the obvious runner-up choice, James Michael Tyler, best known as recurring character Gunther. I enjoyed hearing about David Schwimmer taking offense to an allegedly anti-Semitic joke and Matthew Perry being offended that he wasn’t the first one called. It was also nice that the other players on this series were only tangentially involved in that project, allowing them the time to focus on other things. The most notable development was Sean and Beverly getting drunk together while trying to write Matt’s Merc introduction, which resulted in Sean being completely blunt about exactly what happened with Morning and them nearly having sex, only to be stopped by Sean’s inability to get over the image of Beverly with Sean. It’s a real shame, though I wouldn’t mind seeing Beverly give it a shot with Morning’s brother. Now that Sean has made it clear that he may never be able to get over it, I’m curious to see how Beverly will behave, and what horrific advice Carol will give her as a result. It’s also likely to affect their working relationship, not that the show needs any more things going against it at this point.
