Weeds: Season 8, Episode 5 “Red in Tooth and Claw” (B+)
There seem to be two things that Nancy can’t escape, no matter how hard she tries: drug dealing and Judaism. It’s no surprise that the extended Botwin clan is broke since most of them don’t do anything to earn money, and Kiku’s had a rough enough time lately that she no longer wants to be involved, which means Nancy can’t just fix things with one simple act. As always, however, Nancy is remarkably capable of getting what she wants, as evidenced by her ability to get Stevie put on the soccer team, though his skills made him far too noticeable. Nancy encountering the same rabbi that Andy spoke to at the hospital, who just happens to own the pool that she’s been swimming in each night, suggests that she’ll turn towards spirituality while delving back into the business she does best. Silas’ new friend RJ has some radical ideas, and it seems like his refusal to consider a randomly-suggested sexual exploration prompted RJ to steal his pot, which isn’t good for anyone. Andy’s suggestion of a double date to Shane wasn’t bad, but Ouellette was not the right choice by any stretch of the imagination. Still, Angela appears to genuinely like Shane, which is good news for the Botwin family member with the most potential at the moment. Andy’s overactive sex life got him into trouble once again, and it’s not shocking that Jill’s first impulse was revenge sex with Doug, proving that there really are no mature members of the Botwin family.
