Weeds: Season 8, Episode 7 “Unfreeze” (B+)
It’s no surprise that Nancy wouldn’t be well-liked by her new female co-workers. Yet it’s hard to argue that she doesn’t do good work, though her methods may be somewhat questionable. Forcibly grabbing all of the muffins back from the obnoxious nurses was intense, and tracking the doctor down in his car was quite the follow-up. And just like that, she’s back on top again. Silas may have more trouble fitting in since he’s managed to piss off his supervisor multiple times already, though he’s clearly happy in his new role. Angela may be infatuated with Shane, but it’s clear that her mother isn’t, and instead, on the night of his graduation, he gets a rather unexciting new opportunity from his wild buddy Ouellette. Andy had better luck getting work, and I enjoyed hearing him recount his eclectic rabbinic experience. Watching him teach was a sight, and I’d be interested to see just what those kids end up learning with Andy as their director of spiritual life. At first, Nancy seemed flummoxed by the news of Jill’s pregnancy, but another child will fit in perfectly amid the chaos that exists in the extended Botwin household. With Nancy, Silas, Shane, and Andy all somehow in legitimate lines of work, it’s Doug’s turn once again to worm his way out of being in an unquestionably illegal situation that will take a whole lot of creative thinking to dig his way out of, something I imagine that he’ll find a way to do, against all odds.
