What I’m Watching: Suits

Suits: Season 2, Episode 8 “Rewind” (B)

This episode was definitely a step up from last week, but, like many such endeavors, this flashback was full of corny situations (and hairstyles) and overly obvious hints about the future. Flashing back to the first time Jessica and Harvey tried to take down Daniel was appropriate, though it’s clear that Jessica has changed a lot since the first time, now dead set on making Daniel pay when she was more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt when all signs first pointed to him. The fact that he lied about having to pay his wife’s medical bills when he was actually having an affair with Monica was especially deplorable, and legitimizes Harvey’s forceful takedown considerably. Jessica showed her teeth in her threat to Monica about charging her as an accomplice to Daniel’s misdeeds. It’s not a shock that Harvey and Jessica are working together to undermine Daniel with Mike’s unknowing help, and next week is sure to be a monumental episode. Harvey coming to work a joyous newly-minted partner the morning after his father’s death demonstrated his obsession with power, and it was interesting to see a snapshot of Mike’s path to his former career, spurred by the need to provide care for his grandmother. It’s a shame things didn’t work out between Mike and Jenny, and he sure was devastated when Nikki asked him to take a test for him. On the more comic side, Louis’ braces and his unfortunate mispronunciation of “shmuck” were amusing, though they’ve ticked him off enough to help Daniel defend himself against his enemies.
