What I’m Watching: Wilfred

Wilfred: Season 2, Episode 7 “Avoidance” (B)

This show is just so strange. This installment isn’t bad, but it did perhaps indulge a bit much in the dramatized scenes of Ryan and Wilfred dancing together. The notion of Wilfred getting his Churro treat after dancing was entertaining, and this is hardly the first time that Wilfred has conned Ryan into doing something with him for a peculiar or illogical reason. There’s an enormous difference between nice Wilfred and mean Wilfred, and the former was present for a while in this episode, as he discussed the wonders of dancing and his deep desire for Ryan to join him. Mean Wilfred reared his ugly head when he revealed his tendency to leave souvenirs all around Ryan’s house and then fed the Churro to Ryan in a rather aggressive manner. Ranking Ryan as his fifth best friend wasn’t so nice, but it’s clear that Ryan doesn’t have all that many friends, and one reason for that was explained in this episode. James not quitting his father’s law firm because he threatened to ensure that his career would be over made sense, and maybe now Ryan will be able to spend some time with someone other than his neighbor’s dog. I loved the mention of Amanda being at Comic-Con, and I do hope that she returns soon and sticks around for the foreseeable future. The best line of the episode was hands down Wilfred’s misconception of what a boutique law firm was – a place to defend jewelry and other effeminate items.
