What I’m Watching: True Blood

True Blood: Season 5, Episode 9 “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” (B+)

This episode is a handy improvement over the previous two installments, finally bringing together a handful of the storylines and focusing in on two major simultaneous crises. The anti-super humans were front and center, with the surprising revelation that old sheriff Bud, who rudely ignored Andy’s visit a few weeks ago, was one of their main figures, angry that humans were being maligned by vampires and other such creatures. Over her obsession with losing her fairy powers, Sookie got herself caught right in the middle of things after an annoyed Lafayette accidentally sent her into a dangerous situation. I loved Andy’s response to a reporter’s assertion that Obama was actually in Bon Temps killing vampires, and it’s a good thing that World War IV didn’t start just yet. Unfortunately, Bill’s continued belief in Lilith is making it seem more and more like there’s no hope for humans, especially after he foiled the escape plan Eric hatched with Molly. Pam getting tossed aside by Eric’s replacement is bad news too, and Andy and Jason are not going to be equipped to defend Bon Temps when things get really bad. Russell and Steve managed to piss the werewolves off too by demeaning them, and something tells me that Alcide is going to return from his field trip to see his dad, played by Robert Patrick, to help Sam and Luna save Emma. I wonder what exactly Terry’s role will be now that he’s done the bidding of the woman he killed and given her an eye for an eye by shooting Patrick, but hopefully he’ll help hold down the fort as things in Bon Temps explode.
