Limitless: Season 1, Episode 3 “The Legend of Marcos Ramos” (B+)
Episode three scores more points for the quality of this show, and while I’ve enjoyed its light nature, it’s good to see that there’s a big more meaningful drama and intrigue being inserted as well. After the foreboding arrival of his father’s new nurse at the end of last week’s episode, the end of this hour presents a much less subtle threat that shakes Brian to his core and makes it very clear that his new setup comes with many strings attached. It was very brave for this show to cast Analeigh Tipton as Brian’s ex-girlfriend consider actor Jake McDorman’s last TV gig was the disastrous “Manhattan Love Story,” in which he starred opposite Tipton. Fortunately, her appearance here is a great one, and almost makes up for that disappointing and miserable show. Seeing Brian light up when he reunited with her was wonderful, and it was great for him to discover that they fared well even when he wasn’t on NZT. Letting her go to protect her was a tough decision to watch, but it’s probably for the best since obviously those Brian is close to are in danger. I like the way that Brian thinks, playing things out like a movie which others characters acknowledge is absolutely absurd and unbelievable. His relationship with Ike and particularly Mike is also a lot of fun, and helps to augment the already interesting cases he works on and make this show one of TV’s most entertaining hourlong offerings at the moment.
