The Muppets: Season 1, Episode 3 “Bear Left Then Bear Write” (B+)
The puns on this show are pretty damn entertaining, particularly when they involve animals and muppets. Fozzie nearly getting caught in a bear trap at the end of the episode after he scared away a bunch of humans was a great literal ending and opportunity for reconciliation between Kermit and Fozzie. It’s become immensely clear that Kermit doesn’t like conflict, as evidenced by his constant pandering to Piggy’s needs. Usually, that translates to humor, like when he grabbed a baseball bat hoping Fozzie would think he was just a baseball trophy and when he suggested that Kermit was a very popular frog name. Agreeing to the ridiculous demands of one Nick Offerman of “Parks and Recreation” immortality was also fun, especially Offerman had the oblivious audacity to respond to “I owe you one” by immediately naming an absurd price. Piggy needs to vet her guests a bit more carefully, as there was no way that Christina Applegate could have thought that showing an embarrassing video of Piggy could have been either what she wanted or proved productive for their relationship going forward. Piggy trying to catch her in the act of being humiliated backfired in a big way with Christina dipping her own face in the cake and then going inside when a very suspicious sweatshirt-clad Piggy got arrested by the police. It’s not as if she tries or isn’t vain to everyone around her, but Piggy also doesn’t have much luck in terms of the people she interacts with and the things that end up happening to her.
