What I’m Watching: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: Season 3, Episode 14 “Watchdogs” (B)

In the wake of Hunter and Bobbi’s departure from this show, it was interesting - and not necessarily in a good way - to see one character’s life outside of his work highlighted rather than focusing on the wealth of characters still around. I like Mac, but I do think that this was the least involving plotline yet in which he played a major role. His brother’s attitude towards inhumans is obviously the same ignorant one that has been sweeping through much of the nation and world on this show, and it makes sense that Mac, like the others on the team, has to lie to those he cares about when he tells them what he does. Still, something felt far from convincing about all that, particularly Ruben’s inappropriately loud reaction to seeing Mac when he stopped by the Watchdogs’ compound. As with any other organization that spews hate, the Watchdogs don’t actually care who they’re killing, as evidenced by their hunt for the two perfectly human brothers. I liked the closing conversation in which Daisy told Ruben that they might look him up now that he’s officially an ally. I’m a big fan of Titus Welliver, but I did not remember that he appeared in two season one episodes as Agent Felix Blake, and it seems like he’ll be sticking around to pose quite the threat to everything our team members hold dear, and he’s considerably more dangerous than most of the foes they’ve faced in the past because he used to work for them and knows how they operate.
