What I'm Watching: The Flash

The Flash: Season 2, Episode 17 "Flash Back" (B+)

I'm all for time travel, and it's nice to see that Barry's doing it pretty often now, in addition to traveling to other universes like he did earlier this week when he arrived on "Supergirl." I'm not so sure about the science backing up him changing things then returning to nearly the same future, but as with the last time we saw Eobard Thawne, I'm willing to let it to go because the episode worked overall. That dementor creature was really freaky, and I sure hope any of our friends won't encounter it again anytime soon. Barry was very sweet to record Eddie saying goodbye to Iris, a heartfelt message that I'm sure would have been heartbreaking to watch had we gotten the chance to hear the whole thing. While the two Barrys are pretty similar, Dr. Wells of the past is completely different from the Harry we've gotten to know from Earth-Two, and it's as if they're played by two different actors. Giving Barry the speed-force equation was enormously helpful, and it tracks that Barry had to use Eobard's burning desire to get home as the way to motivate him to keep history on track. Barry made much more of a dent during his trip than he should have, though it seems like all was pretty harmless in the end, leading to a positive and safe return to the future. Now it's a matter of him running fast enough to get to Earth-Two and finally taking down Zoom in the final few episodes of this season.
