What I’m Watching: Legends of Tomorrow

Legends of Tomorrow: Season 1, Episode 9 “Left Behind” (B+)

This episode was very unlike the others that have preceded it, jumping ahead through a long period of time but not through time travel. At first, it was just ten minutes later and then however many hours later, but before we knew it, two years had passed and Ray and Kendra were having a romantic picnic on campus after fully creating lives in the late 1950s. It’s an interesting device, to be sure, and I suspect that spending so much time in the past will catch up with the three of them sooner than later, especially Sara, who dove right back into the life that she had tried so hard to get away from and which took her humanity. Rip calling for a trial by combat and selecting Kendra to fight Sara was a smart choice, and that pairing from a while back paid off since they really do balance each other out well. I’m less in favor of spending time on the League of Assassins or Egyptian prophecies and more on legitimate time travel and all that, and I think we got a bit of both in this episode, particularly when the Wave Rider got thrown into limbo and then happened to pick up the beacon Ray sent out before they thought to return to the exact moment they left as Ray had argued that they would definitely do. The reveal that Mick is Chronos is huge and very interesting, and I like that Rip is set on reforming him rather than simply executing him.
