What I'm Watching: Better Call Saul

Better Call Saul: Season 2, Episode 7 "Inflatable" (B+)

This show usually proceeds at a very slow and deliberate place, with few plot developments occuring over the course of each episode. This episode maintained the style and tone, but it took us through a much longer time period in a series of scenes in which Jimmy did his very best to get fired not for cause. Jimmy should have been smart enough to realize that he couldn't just quit his job and keep his bonus, and upon finding that out thanks to his loyal underling, he wised up and made a great show of it, right up to his parting conversation with Cliff (or Clifford, if you prefer). I liked the detail we saw of Kim's drafted resignation letter, with her changing "I regret to inform you" to "It's my duty," signifying her complete and utter detachment frm the work she was doing for HHM. Jimmy making a business card for his proposed firm with Kim was sweet, and I like that, even though she's not okay with the idea of partnering with him, she's the one who suggested that they share office space and run independent firms out of there, something I'd love to see happen. They’ve both made enormous life decisions, and while Jimmy does this all the time, it’s hardly Kim’s style, and it’s going to be an uphill battle and an adventure to be sure. For now, all seems okay with Mike regarding his daughter-in-law and Tuco, but I suspect that's far from the case.
