SAG Nominees: Best Female Actor in a Drama Series

My predictions: 2/5, missing Aniston, Carter, and Comer
Who’s missing? Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies), Meryl Streep (Big Little Lies), Reese Witherspoon (The Morning Show), Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Winona Ryder (Stranger Things)

I thought it would happen at the Golden Globes, which it did, but I didn’t expect SAG voters to cast aside last year’s winner Oh in favor of her Emmy-winning costar Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), even if I completely agree that she’s the better choice. After hearing the corresponding actor category announced in which two of her costars were named, Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show) was no longer a surprise, but I expected her costar Witherspoon to be nominated too. While “Big Little Lies” did score in ensemble, there was no room for any of its cast members here (though Kidman earned a surprise film bid), making space instead for supporting actress Helena Bonham Carter (The Crown) to join lead Olivia Colman (The Crown). I’m glad that we still got one actress not nominated for a Golden Globe this year: Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale), who continues to do great work on a show that’s not as excellent as it used to be but still very worthwhile. This is a very strong list.

Who will win? I think Colman wins this.
