Angela Black: Season 1, Episode 2 (B+)
It’s difficult to watch this show because there’s so much gaslighting, with Olivier going as far as to laugh at the idea of Angela being afraid of going to an unknown location with him after what he did to her in the pilot. Accusing her of flirting with his coworker at the dinner that he guilted her into coming to was also arrogant and obnoxious, and he just wants to continually one-up himself in the manipulation department. The rage he expressed when he felt like his briefcase was at risk was a major red flag, but Angela managed to get into the briefcase shortly after that when he forgot it at home, and was very smart to take pictures so that she didn’t remove any evidence and could investigate it on her own later. It’s still unclear whether Ed’s motivations are entirely pure and if he just wants to help right some wrongs that he may have perpetuated in working for Olivier previously, and offering to kill Olivier is a big step that makes him a crucial piece of whatever Angela’s plan might be next. Telling her sons that the rabbit they got isn’t the same one but instead a replacement is a bit of a puzzling move since now they hate her, but the final scene of the episode shows that she’s now much more in control than she’s ever been. Olivier laughing about how she’s a bad liar and has no poker face indicates that he has no concept of what she’s planning.
