Peacemaker: Season 1, Episode 8 “Chapter 08: It's Cow or Never” (B+)
This was a terrific finale, one that wraps up all the season one plotlines while leaving the door open for more in season two, which was fortunately announced one day before this episode aired. Presumably we’ll see those episodes long before the second season of any of the Marvel shows that do manage to get renewed, though I imagine there will also be other DC series coming out soon. We did get an unexpected set of cameos towards the end of the episode, with Jason Mamoa and Ezra Miller showing up as Aquaman and The Flash, with Wonder Woman and Superman less visible so they could be played by other actors. Those appearances were actually quite powerful because they showed just how much they missed all the important action and how they’re not the stars of this story. I’m glad that there were no additional casualties from the team, and one of the villains even got to survive, with Peacemaker now supplying the precious honey food to Goff. Things didn’t look good for Harcourt, who had a butterfly crawl into her mouth just as Leota forcefully yanked it out. I love that Leota tried to use the human torpedo mode and failed miserably, only to have Peacemaker use the same activation moments later while Sophie was trying to get him over to her side so that Leota would be sent right into the belly of the cow. The sonic boom command was cool, and certainly more effective than the helmet floating away aimlessly when Leota said the words “activate anti-gravity.” Economos managed to survive too even after he had to mock his human need for validation via his dyed beard. Seeing Leota go on TV and out the program, including her mom, seemed to catch everyone by surprise, with Vigilante humorously going right out the window of his hospital room as soon as he heard that. This show has been incomparably fun, and I really look forward to season two.
