What I’m Watching: The Righteous Gemstones

The Righteous Gemstones: Season 2, Episode 6 “Never Avenge Yourselves, But Leave It to the Wrath of God” (B+)

The cyclist ninja assault on Jesse and Amber ended rather quickly, with Amber emerging the hero thanks to her quick acting and smart shooting, but things are not looking good for Eli, who got hit with a similar attack and appeared to catch a bullet before driving his car through barricades on the road. Jesse was not happy to give Amber the credit for saving the day, and he took a very biblical approach to encouraging all the men to journey with him to Memphis to execute David-style justice with allegedly authentic replicas of the slingshot he used to fell Goliath. I think I’m least interested in Kelvin’s storyline with his legion of acolytes who are no longer eager to follow him, and at least we got a mildly therapeutic moment where Eli tried to apologize to the son who is past wanting to talking to him. Judy’s reaction to needing to host her aunt was typically juvenile, but it was sweet to see her try to console Tiffany and cheer her up when she finally understood just how selfish and undependable Baby Billy was. Calling a hospital and having to explain that he wasn’t a baby was a humorous moment, and hopefully they’ll be able to find him eventually since I do want to see Walton Goggins on this show again in the future. BJ didn’t get approval to call Eli daddy, but their interaction was one of the best he had ever had, and he was filled with such sincere joy at getting the handshake that even Judy seemed to approve of that milestone.
