Emmy Catch-Up: Maid

Maid: Season 1, Episode 6 “M” (B+)

It’s easy to get attached to ideas that seem too good to be true, and there was a lot of that in this episode. Nate made an easy connection to his child’s preschool, which turned out to be perfect, save for the caveat that she needed to have an address in Fisher Island. Regina’s frustration with not being able to build the crib by herself led to a suggestion that she was going to hire a nanny, and Alex jumped on that right away with an overenthusiastic offer to live there with Maddy so that everyone could be happy. That plan might have made sense but it did seem like a bit much to Regina, but then Alex found the perfect solution, a lovely couple who was happy to have her there. She really shouldn’t have taken them up on their offer to have the party there, I would have thought only because she didn’t want Sean to have her address, but then he went ahead and ended up drunk and asleep inside their house. It wasn’t the same kind of egregious offense, but one that nonetheless ruined an idyllic situation that would have solved so many problems at the same time. Sean’s mockery of Nate’s apparent crush on Alex was inappropriate and hypocritical, especially since he brought someone to the party who was not all about it being for kids. Alex talking to her friends about “Sean’s side” shows how even domestic abuse situations result in people wanting to stay neutral when there’s clearly a problem. While Paula did show up eventually, she’s now without a place of her own to live, and Hank’s presence in Sean and Maddy’s life is going to continue to torture Alex.
