Round Two: Limitless

Limitless: Season 1, Episode 2 “Badge! Gun!” (B+)

I’m glad I stuck around, since this show is definitely fun, and I enjoyed this second round. Brian’s role as a consultant for the FBI could have led to him partnering immediately with Rebecca, but instead we got to see an entire hour of him being confined exclusively to a room where he had to do things like learn Farsi and behave like an analyst, something that obviously wasn’t going to keep him entertained for even a few hours. The way he acted when he managed to break out – and how – proved most enjoyable, as he excitedly described the people he met on the bus and the enthusiasm with which he got to hop around and get what he wanted done. Stopping by his family dinner on NZT was also smart, though his father was very perceptive and made the connection between his new success and the drug he knew he had been taking. The big surprise of the hour came at the end when his father’s nurse ended up being none other than Sipiwe, the nurse he met when Senator Morra promised him a painful death if he ever told his family about him and the injections. I don’t think that means he can’t talk about NZT and his work with the FBI, but obviously it scared him enough to stay quiet. I like where this show is headed, particularly scenes like Brian loudly encouraging all the miserable employees to send in dirt on their boss, and I’m eager to see more of where it goes in the weeks and months to come.
