What I’m Watching: Better Call Saul

Better Call Saul: Season 2, Episode 2 “Cobbler” (B+)

Jimmy is doing pretty well in his new gig, and it seems that his main problem is that he’s bored since the case isn’t moving along all that quickly. It was unfortunate that Chuck decided that, upon hearing that Jimmy had been given a job, he needed to make a big show of going into work so that he could remind his brother that he’s not actually a real lawyer. Jimmy held up quite well, and it’s great to see that it didn’t really rattle him. I like that Mike took center stage again in this episode as he caught wind of his client’s idiotic plot to talk to the cops about his missing baseball cards. Letting Nacho have his car and getting the police off his back wasn’t an easy task, but who else but crooked lawyer Jimmy would be best for the job? The way that man can talk is pretty incredible, and he spun quite the tale about making an erotic video sitting and crying in a pie. That he actually had him film it is something else altogether, and that’s what made his idyllic life with Kim suddenly appear to vanish. He got his new company car that his #2 lawyer mug didn’t fit in and had the chance to show it off in front of the salon. But Kim got nervous as soon as Jimmy said that he had faked evidence. For him, it doesn’t matter, but this is exactly what’s going to lead him to become a successful solo operation without any true human connections in his life.
