Supergirl: Season 1, Episode 15 “Solitude” (B+)
As soon as Indigo appeared on screen, I was pretty sure I recognized Laura Vandervoort, who I first got to know when she played a familiar character named Kara, a.k.a. Supergirl, in the latter seasons of “Smallville.” Casting Vandervoort in the role of a ferocious alien menace who looks a lot like Mystique from X-Men intent on ending human civilization and anyone who got in her way was fun, and it’s great way to incorporate an actress who can’t reprise her role since someone else is already playing it. Indigo, or Brainiac-8, was a fitting villain to appear now while Kara is still getting out her anger over Astra’s death, and her presence forced Kara to reconcile with the DEO, prompting Alex’s confession of her role in Astra’s death, which thankfully resulted in Kara forgiving and embracing both of them. Non being in league with Indigo is bad news, and it seems that the entity, even if not in the same human form, will be back again soon to try to destroy humanity. It was good to see Winn use his technical prowess to help stop Indigo, and his inherent kindness appears to have him earned him a place in a secret relationship with the antisocial Siobhan which should be interesting to see play out. Kara going to bat for James was well-meaning, and it’s probably for the best that Lucy has decided that she and James can’t be together since he and Kara love each other, Supergirl or not. It will definitely make working together awkward, though.
